Downtown Silver Spring Historic Survey to Begin

A long-planned effort to do a comprehensive evaluation of downtown Silver Spring's architectural and historical resources is now underway.  Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission has contracted with Potomac-Hudson Engineering, Inc. to identify and record historic sites and cultural resources throughout the Silver Spring Central Business District (CBD).  The survey will focus on buildings in the CBD which are 50 years old or older to determine which have sufficient integrity and significance to make them eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

If you know of any buildings which you feel should be included in this survey, please email information to sshistory@yahoo.com.  Please include:

1.  Street address of building.

2.  Any historical information you have about the building (documentation, photographs, etc.).

Thank you for your participation in this important survey of our community's architectural heritage!
